Franklin Half Dollar Proof – 1960–1963 – 90% Silver

The Franklin Half Dollar was issued from 1948 through 1963 and features Benjamin Franklin on the obverse and the Liberty Bell on the reverse. Designed by John R. Sinnock, the series enjoyed a relatively short 16-year run before being replaced by the Kennedy Half Dollar in 1964.

Unlike regular circulation strikes, Proof Franklin Half Dollars were specially produced by the Philadelphia Mint for collectors. Their carefully prepared dies and planchets produced sharp details and highly reflective, mirror-like fields. Individual coins may also exhibit varying degrees of attractive Cameo contrast, with frosted design elements standing out against mirrored fields.
