The Mexican 5 Pesos Cuauhtémoc combines the appeal of classic world coinage with an impressive amount of precious metal. Unlike modern bullion pieces created primarily for investors, this was real Mexican circulating currency, issued with a face value of 5 pesos and intended to be used as money.

Struck from .900 fine silver, each coin weighs a hefty 30 grams and contains 27 grams of pure silver, equal to approximately 0.8681 troy ounces of Actual Silver Weight (ASW). That gives the 5 Pesos considerably more silver than a Morgan or Peace Dollar, which contains approximately 0.7734 troy ounces.

The coin honors Cuauhtémoc, the final Aztec ruler of Tenochtitlán and one of the most important figures in Mexican history. His detailed portrait wearing a traditional feathered headdress gives the coin an unmistakable appearance and has helped make the Cuauhtémoc 5 Pesos a favorite among collectors of Mexican silver.

The opposite side features the Mexican national coat of arms, depicting an eagle perched upon a cactus with a serpent in its beak—a design deeply rooted in Mexico's history and national identity.

The Cuauhtémoc 5 Pesos was issued for only two years, 1947 and 1948. The 1948 issue had a mintage of approximately 26.74 million coins. While originally everyday currency, these large silver coins are now sought after by both world-coin collectors and silver stackers.
