Vintage - Liberty Mint “Honest Value Never Fails”- 1 Ozt .999 Fine Silver Round
The 1985 Liberty Mint U.S.S. Constitution Silver Round is a great example of privately minted American bullion from the 1980s, combining one Troy ounce of silver with American maritime and monetary history.
The obverse features the legendary U.S.S. Constitution, better known as “Old Ironsides,” under full sail. Surrounding the ship is the phrase “Honest Value Never Fails,” along with the U.S.S. Constitution name and the 1985 date.
The reverse is what makes this vintage round particularly interesting. Along with the Liberty Mint name, weight, and purity, it features language from Article I, Section 10 of the U.S. Constitution referencing gold and silver coin as tender in payment of debts. It reflects the sound-money themes that appeared on a number of privately issued silver pieces during this period.
Produced by Liberty Mint of Provo, Utah, this discontinued round offers more than generic silver. Its dated design, historic sailing ship, constitutional theme, and connection to the private bullion market of the 1980s give it additional appeal to collectors of vintage silver.
